CINEMA

This project is an experimental cinema design theoretically located on Mass Avenue in Boston, MA. The design centers around the main theater as an object in itself, standing within a large, open-air lobby. The circulation within movie theaters was the main interest. How can this typically linear approach to a movie be curbed and redesigned into a refreshing experience? In this design, the theater is not hidden from view, but displayed like a sculpture in a museum. While not necessarily as efficient, the concept of a long journey upwards to the show was, spatially, very exciting. To gain access into the theater, the movie-goer must ascend four floors, the theater always visible, hovering within the lobby. While most people would be simply excited to see a film itself, this cinema adds an architectural experience with the cinematic one.
