BATH

The Bathhouse project was a two-part exercise that resulted in two very different designs. Located in proximity to one another at Saco Lake, NH, the two bathhouses were formulated with similar methods of construction yet designed under different notions of spatial viewpoint. The recurring parameters in each are the construction type and the capacity. Three tubs with varying containments of water were required, each built with one main material: CMU block. The first project was fast and dirty, a one week blitz which resulted in a bathhouse that meditated on the notion of observing the cosmos. Three chambers shoot upward, their angled walls framing a galactic view from within the baths. The second project took on other poetics, focusing mainly on a higher elevation and a westerly view towards the New Hampshire mountains. A habitable rooftop creates a processions to the end of the cantilever and ultimately down, into the baths.
